How It All Began
Kenyan Gold Connect was founded in 2018 by Mariam Njeri, who, through her firsthand experiences, witnessed the profound struggles faced by artisanal miners in rural Kenya. These miners, despite their unwavering dedication and the inherent value of the gold they extract, often find themselves trapped in a cycle of poverty. This dire situation is largely attributed to exploitative trading practices and their limited access to larger, more lucrative markets.
Mariam's observations ignited a mission to bridge this gap. She recognized a significant opportunity to connect these talented miners with international buyers who prioritize ethically sourced gold. Our platform was meticulously crafted to ensure that these miners receive fair compensation for their hard work, while also promoting transparency in transactions. This approach not only uplifts the miners but also fosters sustainable development within the communities we serve.
Currently, we proudly collaborate with over 62 mining cooperatives throughout Kenya, representing more than 2,900 individual miners and their families. Each transaction facilitated through our platform plays a crucial role in funding essential projects in education, healthcare, and infrastructure within these mining communities. By empowering these miners and ensuring they receive the recognition and compensation they deserve, we are not just transforming lives; we are reshaping the future of artisanal mining in Kenya.
